Autolite Dual Point Distributor

In '65 only the K-Codes and Shelbys came with a Dual Point Distributors. So it was a nice surprise to find a C5OF-12127-E dual point, mechanical advance only, Autolite branded distributor on top of my 302 from '68. The third digit in the Ford code is a capital letter 'O' instead of number '0' which it looks like stamped in the distributor body.

At first I did not pay any attention to it, but when I was wondering why the vacuum port in the intake manifold had been blocked and there is no vacuum advance in the dizzy at all my friend got interested and told me that this one is a rare and wanted dual point distributor. He called a fellow FMOC guy who is building a period correct historic race engine and needs a period correct distributor.

Now that I most likely will not build a periodically, historically, concours or any other type of correct engine, I gave this away and he promised to deliver me a new distributor when I need one. Fair enough for me.

Why did I bother to post about a worn distributor that I have no intentions in installing on my engine. For me it is a one small piece of evidence that the story about this car being factory installed with K code HiPo engine might be true.
